Steady rain throughout the night
Gives way to a muggy autumn morning.
The unseasonal heat hangs oppressively heavy,
Unmoving in the windless air.
Across the valley,
A low cloud hangs over Mt. Ibuki
Like a soft, milky-white blanket
Swaddling the statuesque peak.
It will soon become a milky-white snow cap.
The mountains surrounding Lake Biwa
Steam in the morning heat,
Spewing puffy plumes from dense forests.
Like volcanoes erupting in peaceful silence.
The fledgling clouds rise slowly,
Taking flight from their terrestrial birth,
Laboring against the stagnant air,
Joining their brethren in the sky.
